Question
Hi Brian!

I am a US citizen who is considering transferring to our UK branch for a permanent job and I have a couple of questions that I am hoping you can help me with:

1) Do I need to provide a FBI background report for my work permit application or visa application or will they run a background check on me during the work permit and visa process?

2)I've got a driving while intoxicated charge approx 10 years ago and am concerned that this will prevent me from gaining admittance to the UK.  Do I have to reference it?

3) Will i need copies of my college degree and transcripts or will they contact the university in the US to verify my credentials?

I really appreciate your time.

Thanks so much.

Best regards,

Jake

Answer
Hi Jake,
The Work Permit is granted on the basis that your company has applied and that no UK citizen is available to do the job.
If the Company has offered you the choice then the Immigration Authorities will assume they have checked on all your degrees etc.
They do not usually run any record checks and in any case a drink/drive carge in the UK is not allowed to be considered after a period of as long as 10 years.
Just answer the questions that are asked and no more when it comes to any form filling.
All the best
Brian
