Question Dear Bruce,I am separated from my husband ,and he is currently paying £350 a month into my bank for my 18yr old son who is at college full time and will be doing an HNC full time for the next 2yrs.The payments stop the day before his 19th birthday which is the 2nd of december 2005 and I am worried that he will not recieve anything from then on to assist financially. Is my husband legally bound to pay anything after he has reached 19? He has said to my son that he will put £75 a month in his bank from then on .Is it up to him to decide the amount? thankyou very much mairi neill

A non-resident parent will be liable to pay child maintenance while Child Benefit is being paid and the child is
aged under 16; or
aged 16 to 19 and in full-time non-advanced education.
The definition of full time education is 12 hours a week or more of study on a course up to and including A level standard.
When a child leaves full time education in the summer, Child Benefit generally continues until the first week of September.
