AboutVicky Stirling Expertise If you have any travel related questions on Uganda I have lived in the country and am now an independent travel advisor for East and Southern Africa. Uganda is one of the friendliest and most beautiful countries in East Africa.
Experience I have worked in a tourist lodge near to Fort Portal and have travelled extensively throughout the country visiting the majority of National Parks and Game Reserves.
Question Hi, we have booked flights to Uganda and will be there for 2 weeks June/July. Despite reading various travel books we are still unclear as to whether travelling around to parks by public transport is feasible or whether we need to book an "Overlander" tour. We also want to spend time in Kampala, Entebbe, Ssesse Islands and Chimp Island and would therefore like the freedom to decide when we get there but don't want to spend all our time trying to arrange trips instead of enjoying Uganda.
Answer I would organise something before you go, the most interesting part of Uganda is in the West I would not spend too much time in Kampala or Entebbe. You dont have much time and you will just waste that time trying to arrange things when you arrive.
I would suggest Sesse Islands but head over to the West as its beautiful over there. Lake Bonyonyi, Bwindi and Queen Elizabeth National Park are good places to visit and quite close to each other.
No you cannot get into the National Parks with public transport you will have to organise a vehicle and guide.
Have fun its a lovely country
all best
