Experience I am a Peace Corps Volunteer currently living in Ukraine
Question hello thanks for helping me out. i was just wondering are there any black people in odessa? and i am american and are there any english universities to go to school? or do I have to know russian?
Answer There are some blacks living in Odessa, but largely they are African immigrants working there. Although a person of color can live well in Ukraine, expect a lot of discrimination and problems with police (frequently stopped for documents, etc). Odessa is known to be more cosmopolitain than other Ukrainian cities, but Peace Corps volunteers of color have often reported problems. There are Universities that teach in English, but they teaching the language itself. Any other programs would be taught in Ukrainian or Russian. Plus, a Ukrainian degree is almost worthless in the west (I also know of Ukrainians with advanced degrees that end up waiting tables or cleaning hotel rooms in America). I am not trying to discourage you: Ukraine is a great country, but I wanted to be honest on those points. Good luck!
