Subject: Slow Computer

Question
Operating System is Windows XP - I believe my computer runs slowly because there is so much running at start up...it takes forever to my computer to re-boot and I continue to hear things "running" in the background.....it takes forever to do anything on my computer because it takes so long.  We recently had Verizon Fios installed for our internet provider and the technician was amazed how slow it was....he stated I had so much running in the background...so we adjusted that, however, it seems like it continues to revert back to running everything !  How to fix this ?????????

Answer
Hi Becky

Let's take a look at what's running and if there is any malware issues which may cause the slowdown.  Please download Trend Micro's HijackThis to your desktop from here:
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/_download/HJTInstall.exe
Double-click on the file you just downloaded.
Click on the "Install" button.
Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.
Choose 'Do a system scan and save a log file'.
Copy the text file which opens in Notepad and paste it in your reply here.
