Subject: Vista basic loosing disk space

Question
Hi Brian,

I have a HP laptop with Vista basic installed on it. It seems that every day my free disk space is decreasing, went from 51gigs free to 37.8gigs. I am not using the free space myself, it just seems to get less day by day.

After getting a major service pack update (sp1) for vista my free space went back up to the region of 49 gigs, which is what I think it should be. Since then day by day it has been going back down. Do you have any idea why this is happening?

I have a 80gig hard drive,
C: 66.3gigs
E: 1.31gigs
F: 6.59gigs

It is only the C partition that is loosing free space, the other 2 partitions are fine.

Will appreciate it if you could shed some light on what is happen.

Thanks,
Anaaz

Answer
Hi Anaanz

Vista is using the space for System Restore points and Shadow Storage.  Check out the link below for tips on recovering some of that space:

If you have any further questions, just let me know.  Good luck.

Brian
