Understanding Computers - internet connection

Expert: Nathaniel Seward - 8/31/2008

Question
Hi Nathaniel
I have just inherited a Dell computer I can only get dial-up
internet connection at the momewnt too expensive I'm in a rural area. I want to know if and how to connect my Dell to the dial -up.
I was told most computers now are only set up for high speed

Thanks
Margaret

Answer
Look at the back of the PC and if there is a telephone port that will be your modem for dial up....However an ethernet connection (high speed) port also looks like a telephone jack only bigger. So dont mistake the two. If you do have a modem you can set up internet through whatever company you choose control panel> internet options> connection then setup....just enter in the info the ISP gives you.
If you dont have a modem dont worry they are easy to install and aren't expensive.
If you don't have a modem and need help installing once you get one feel free to write back.
