Question Hi Hope
I will be coming to the UAE soon for work. I am a 34 year old female from South AFrica. Can foreign women wear what they want? Can we smoke? Can we drive a car? I heard that we are not allowed to drive. Is that true? Can women go to shopping malls by themselves? I am not very skinny - will I be able to buy clothes over there, or must I rather stock up here? Welcome to Dubai. You have some interesting questions:
Women in UAE can wear what they want as long as it is respectful and not that preveling , we have women who wear short skirts ( not a mini one ) :) . People actully wear anything they feel like but it has to be respectful to our conservative community. you can smoke but not at work ( depends ) and not in the malls or public places. you can drive ( I drive ) and so are most of the girls and women here. You can certainlly go to malls by yourself ( can't see why you can't ) and Dubai shops are all big brands branches , so if you buy from a brand shop in your country i'm sure you'll find it in Dubai .
