Question
No expert listed for Jordan, perhaps you can help. Going on a tour with 27 in group 2/16-22 to Amman and Petra. Worried about safety.what do you advise? Also need info on weather, what to wear, shorts, long pants, rain gear, suntan lotion? appreciate any help. Thanks

Answer
I have been to Amman and Petra and can offer a very pointers.

1. It almost never rains in the desert so you can leave the rain gear at home.  Definately bring suntan lotion, the sun can be very intense, especially in Petra.

2. Shorts are really only OK at hotel pool or beach...other than that women especially should not show too much skin, long pants and long sleeves are a must or you risk offending the locals.

3. Security - Jordan is safe for the most part....you don't have to worry about the kind of crime you get in American big cities and as far as terrorism goes, Israel is by more the most dangerous country in the region.
