Question Hi, My name is Wes martin and my entire life is getting into the Naval Academy. I am very worried that I might not make and was wondering if you could tell me my chances.
I am a junior at Lubbock High School with a GPA of 3.75.
I have not taken the ACT or SAT yet but have accomplished a great deal in Navy JROTC. My 1st year I was the only sophmore in the Marksmanship team and I was on the armed drill team, Pt team, Color guard, Academic teams. I recieved the circle ten medal, marksmanship medal, 2nd place academic medal and was on the state champion armed drill team. I recieved the sphmore of the year award. I did much more things my first year but will not write too much about it so as not to make this too long. My second year I was on the same teams and was designated the color guard commander and 2nd platoon leader. I was 5th place in the state champion marksmanship. I recieved the only 1st place color guard in LHs' 15 year history. I was a squad leader in armed drill and won another 2nd place academic award. I have been to mini-boot camp and was an ensign.Just as my 1st year I did much more but will not go on.
What do think are my chances of getting into Naval Academy?
Answer Wes,
I have to give you the same advice I give to everyone with this question. I am not able to predict whether or not the admissions board will give you an appointment or not. It sounds like you are on the right path.
There is no right or wrong path to get into an Academy. The admissions board is looking for future leaders. These leaders can come in many shapes, sizes, and backgrounds. You appear to be doing everything you can do to excel. That is important.
Academics, clubs, and sports are all ways to show that you have leadership potential. Academics show that you can be molded and learn. Clubs show that you are well-rounded. Leadership positions show that you are trying to learn to be a leader now. Sports are great, because they show that you care about your body as well as your mind and soul. However, these are not guarantees for an appointment. You will need to gain a nomination from a Congressman/Senator (or equivalent). This is a crucial step. Interviewing is important to show that you can think things through as well.
Yes, I think you have a good chance at getting in. I just want you to realize that there is no 100% chance.
So Wes...Keep excelling at what you do. That is the key. Develop every leadership opportunity you have. It sounds like you are on the right path. Just keep your eye on your goal.
