Subject: community college to UT Austin?

Question
I moved to the US  1 1/2years ago and attended Los angeles community college, currently attenting El Paso Community College and planning to attend University of Texas at El paso.
I want to transfer to UT Austin so bad but Im kinda nervous of not getting in since I heard that admissions was difficult. I have a GPA of 4.0 and I wonder if my LA courses will be accredited? I want to go to the college of natural science. do i have to apply to the college or to UT austin first?

* In the "what we consider area" of the UT austin web page says that I have to come from a " challenging academic institution" Does that include my community college eventhough it doesnt have any articulation/ agreement program with the university??

thank you so much in advancee.=)

Answer

Hi Ev,

Well, I'm not an admissions counselor, so don't take what I say as the gospel truth!

I'm not sure what UT Austin's position is on community college transfers. Certainly having a 4.0 is probably a good thing. :) I can't really help you with any information on UT El Paso, because UT El Paso and Austin have completely separate admissions departments.

I'm also not sure what sort of credit you will receive for your LA  classes since they were taken out of state. UT has a course equivalency program you can look at (http://www.utexas.edu/student/admissions/ate/) but it will only help you with your El Paso community college and UT classes.

I would say a lot depends on if you actually earned a Associates Degree from any of the community colleges. I'm sorry I'm not very knowledgeable on this area!
