Expertise
I can help with anything from freshman/transfer admissions to financial aid, from coursework to campus life. I'm extremely familiar with the College of Liberal Arts, but I know a fair share about other colleges as well.

Experience
I'm a senior with a double major in English and Government, and I'm also completing the Liberal Arts Honors program.

Question
Hi, I'm currently trying to figure out housing and I can't decide between two dorms: San Jacinto for on-campus and The Castilian for off-campus.  I don't know enough pros and cons to make a decision.  Can you help?  Thanks!

Answer

Hi Sheena,

Personally, I would pick San Jacinto a million times over. I've been inside both the Castillian and SanJac, and they're pretty much exactly the same . . . except San Jac probably runs cheaper! The Castillian has the gym and pool and everything, but SanJac is right across from the Gregory gym and pool (which you already pay for access to in your student fees). Also, the meal plan with SanJac gives you access to Jester cafeteria, Kinsolving cafeteria (which has different selections), and Jester City Limits (a take-away cafeteria). Plus you're RIGHT beside the stadium!

Also, I think you would just get an over-all better college experience. I've talked with people who have lived on-campus and off-campus, and the people who didn't live in the dorms just ... didn't really get that "college" experience as well. There's just something different about knowing you're living in a university dorm ON the campus.

Most of the people I know who lived in off-campus dorms were just afraid of on-campus dorms being dirty, or having to share a bathroom. Well, San Jac is VERY VERY nice and new inside (it only opened in 2004 - way newer than the Castillian), and EVERY room has a private bathroom.

I say, why bother with really expensive off-campus fees when you can get a better experience on campus?

Hope this helps,
Kat
