AboutKat Expertise I can help with anything from freshman/transfer admissions to financial aid, from coursework to campus life. I'm extremely familiar with the College of Liberal Arts, but I know a fair share about other colleges as well.
Experience I'm a senior with a double major in English and Government, and I'm also completing the Liberal Arts Honors program.

Question Hi I'm Danny
I am a current freshman at Texas A&M International University and am looking forward to applying as a transfer to U.T. now i attended A&M for one semester but came back home since the environment at college station was anything but open (my opinion), now i couldn't resist staying there for the whole year....so i came back and was able to get into TAMIU. Now i understand all the requirements that i need such as 30 hours, essays, and transcripts, but i really want to know how important GPA has on me getting accepted. I currently have a 3.3 GPA from the current school. I am an English Major and hence I'm trying to get into the Liberal Arts program. Now as to what I have heard, the liberal arts is the easiest to get into but I'm not sure if that is true. I have already spoken to admissions but you know they're really vague in responses. Well i really hope you can answer my question...i know UT is for me and i need to get in! Well than you for reading this. I hope to hear from you soon!
Answer Hi Danny,
It's always nice to hear from another English major! UT has a really really amazing English department, and the building it's housed in (Parlin) is like a second home to me. Also, UT Austin is SO open-minded! If you are accepted, I have no doubts that you will absolutely love it here.
Now, I'm not an admissions counselor so don't take my word as the golden truth, but this is what I've come to understand from talking to friends who have attempted to transfer.
As I understand it, the unofficial "cut-off" GPA for transfer students is a 3.2 (and I heard that for Natural Sciences, so it may be even lower for LibArts). I also believe it's in your favor that you're an in-state transfer (since UT tries to reserve most of it's transfer spots to in-state students).
Beyond that, I think UT just wants to see that your reason for transferring is because you feel like UT has more access to resources or available opportunities than your old school did. They want to see that you did well at your other schools, they just weren't the right fit for your needs.
I'm sorry I can't give you much more concrete information, but I do hope you are accepted! The student newspaper just reported that freshman admissions letters were mailed out today, so hopefully you will find out soon!
