Subject: Financial Aid
Question I am planning to transfer to UT next semester. My major is Chemical Engineer.
Does UT have any available grants or financial supports for transferring student? Because I am afraid that it is had for me to get Pell Grant since my family contribution this year is $7,000 (my family income is about $70,000 last year). Besides that, I don't think I am eligible for Texas Grant because I did not received it last year and I won't have a Associate Degree when I come to UT.
Does UT have any guaranteed grants of financial supports? Or I have to apply for Scholarships? Also, what kind of scholarship UT offers and when is the deadline? Is it easy to get a scholarship or not?
Thanks
Answer Hi Valerie,
Yes, you may have some difficulty getting financial aid from the government since your family earns so much. That said, even if you came from a low income family, it is still very difficult to get financial aid from the government, especially with the economy as it is right now!
Your best bet would be to try to earn scholarships from the College of Engineering and the department of Chemical Engineering. (In the past, I earned about $10,000 in scholarships from the College of Liberal Arts and the department of English).
College of Engineering Scholarship Office:

Department of Chemical Engineering:

You may also want to call the Office of Student Financial Services and ask them if they have any recommendation on sources of financial aid outside of that you would receive from the FAFSA.

Good luck!
