AboutKat Expertise I can help with anything from freshman/transfer admissions to financial aid, from coursework to campus life. I'm extremely familiar with the College of Liberal Arts, but I know a fair share about other colleges as well.
Experience I'm a senior with a double major in English and Government, and I'm also completing the Liberal Arts Honors program.
I have a very important question. Next year, I will be a senior gradutating from my highschool ripe and ready to head into UT. But there is only one problem. My pet ferret. What will happen to him? Are there any dorm rooms that will allow for small pets to be housed? I would think so but finding information on this was extremly difficult so I was hoping you could get back to me.
Thanx much!
Dee
Answer Well... I'm sorry to say, none of the University's housing allows pets. I also think that the nearby private dorms (Castilian, Dobie, University Towers) don't allow them either.
Your best bet, besides an apartment, would probably be this unique organization around UT called College House Co-op. It says on their site that they DO allow cats, and that "Other small animals have sometimes been accepted at the discretion of the house. Each house sets a limit on pets and you may request that your pet be allowed." I think a ferret would definitely qualify as a small animal, especially since you likely keep it caged most of the time.
College House manages several co-op housing developments all around the UT campus with varying apartment style or dorm style housing. The way it works is that the rent is RIDICULOUSLY cheap (probably the cheapest in a 5 mile radius) because you are expected to be in charge of one chore to keep the community running. Maybe its cooking, maybe its cleaning, something like that and you have a say in what you do.
The only real downside to them is that... well... you get some VERY interesting characters living there. Probably the weirdest folks Austin has to offer. Of course they have singles, and you get a say in your roommate, but... co-op housing tends to attract the bohemian lifestyle.
