Unix/Linux OS/Installing Multiple Os in a computer.

Dear John‎‎

Is it possible to install multiple Operating Systems in a single machine viz Server, Workstation, Laptop ?.

For example : Microsoft Windows and Linux.

Awaiting your reply,

Thanks & Regards,
Prashant S Akerkar

Yes, it's possible to do this.  The easiest way would be to find instructions on a website that supports the Linux distro you want to install.  Regardless of which you choose, you'll want to install Windows first.  The Ubuntu project has an executable called "wubi.exe".  Run from within Windows, it does the Linux installation without user intervention (and preserves the Windows installation).

There's another option, too.  Which option will work best for you depends on what you intend to do.

The other option is installing one of the two and running a Virtual Machine for each OS you want to play with. Linux and Windows support VMs.  I'm not able to recommend one over the other.

Does this answer the question?
