Unix/Linux OS - LAN card problem

Expert: Mara - 1/8/2006

Question
Hai,
I hav installed red hat 9 on my system but Iam not able to connect to the internet because it says that the LAN card is not intialized. It is a Tech-com Lan card. I think it is a driver problem, if so where can I get the drivers?

Sam.

Answer
Hello,
I can't find "Tech-com", are you sure you have spelled it correctly?

It can't stop us from finding the right driver, however. We can see how Linux detects it. Open a terminal (konsole, rxvt or any other you may use), become root by using 'su' command and typing in root's password when asked. Then run 'lspci'. Look at the results. It's a list of all PCI equipment found in your machine. You should have 'Ethernet controller' somewhere. Please send me that line.

Take care,
Mara
