Question dear sir,
i have installed 3 os in my system. winxp prof. win2003 server and redhat linux version 9. all the os were operating quite smoothly. but all of sudden my linux os show the problem rest two are going on fine. while booting it stoped and show the message " Kernal panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!" could you please help me!
Answer Hi Saroj,
Alot of the time, the kernel panic message has to do with Linux being unable to locate the hard drive. Will you please forward me the entire boot output from your Linux installation? That will help me pinpoint the problem.
A couple of things to consider in the interim:
1) If you've added any hardware recently, remove it, and try to boot into Linux. If Linux boots fine, let me know and we can look at what the problem is with your hardware for Linux.
2) Boot from a Linux rescue CD (something like Knoppix - http://www.knoppix.com/) and then run fsck on the hard drive. That may fix the problem.
