Subject: Recall of Phenylpropanolamine

Question
Hi --
I was sent this email and asked to forward it to everyone I know. It sounds serious. Can't find anything on the web to prove that it is not. Tried the 800 # it is a consumer affairs number.

Would appreciate any light you can shed on this info.

Thanks
KC

Answer
KC,

Yes, the FDA has put out a recommendation that everyone stop using PPA (I can't spell it).  However they have NOT yet called for a recall, although they have recommended that manufacturers institute a voluntary recall.

For more info visit:
http://www.snopes.com/toxins/ppa.htm

On the Triaminic note (which seems to be unrelated and tacked on):
http://www.triaminic.com/

Unfortunately, most of the sites I found that I normally would have trusted for good information seem to have blindly posted the e-mail they were forwarded (the EXACT one you sent me) rather than doing any research.  So.  I trust: The FDA site.  You can link there from the snopes page listed above.

Thanks for writing!

Cassandra

P.S. As the "junkscience" link from the Snopes site doesn't work, I wanted to give you a link that presents a contrasting viewpoint as well.
