Question Dear Doctor
I have a query related to my own condition as follows.
Can prostatectomy be done in case of Prostatitis (prostate gland infection by Enterobactor spp.) as long term antibiotic therapy failed to cure the malady?
I am a kidney transplant recipient of over four years with normal kidney functions, a father of a daughter, and not willing to father further issues.
I am looking for your helpful advice,
Thanks in advance,
Nirmal
Answer Nirmal:
A prostatectomy can be done, but we prefer not to operate on patients with transplants. Other treatment for prostatitis would include NSAID medications, hot sitz baths, dietary therapy (no caffeine or hot spicy foods), alpha blocker and 5 alpha reductase inhibitors like Proscar or Avodart. Quercetin, a natural anti-inflammatory supplement, can sometimes help and there are other supplements like Prosta-Q, "PEENUTS" and "UROSTAR" that have yet to be tried. If all of these fail, then consideration can be given to surgery.
For more info on the supplements, check: www.peenuts.com.
