Subject: penis nerve damage
Question Hello, about a year ago I had a "crash" with my penis while having sex.
After the crash my penis felt numb and I had a loss of feeling.
I would guess some kind of nerve injury, I did not feel that the loss was so bad so i just ignored it.
About three months ago i managed to damage my penis again this time with some more loss of feeling...and making me pee alot?
Now I'm taking the sex very slow and not that often.
My question is: will this loss of feeling be permanent and can it get worse? or will it heal with time?
Could a nerve have been severed? What should I do?
Answer Tom, there are sensory nerves in the penis that can be damaged & if this occurs, the sensitivity can be significantly diminished. The most common cause is in those men who try to enlarge their penis by various stretching exercises, the use of penile extenders, or the practice of "jelquing". Because of this complication, I do not recommend such methods. Penile sensory nerve damage does not usually occur with traditional methods of masturbation or sex but it can. From the history you provided, I suspect this is the mechanism in your case. When nerve damage occurs, it generally reverses itself if no further insult occurs. However, the recovery period may take a year or more. You apparently were in this healing stage when you re-injured the penis. It is sometimes difficult in "the heat of the moment" to prevent injury with exaggerated and "poorly aimed" thrusting but since you have been injured twice, this is important in your case. The use of a good quality lubricant with intercourse (such as one of the silk lubricants) will help somewhat by reducing unnecessary friction.
It is remotely possible that you do have an underlying neurologic disorder but this is not likely. . This may be able to be detected by have specialized testing of the penile nerves. This is well beyond my expertise but studies such as penile latency and conduction studies may shed light on the condition. If an abnormality is found, however, I am unaware of any specific treatment. But again, this is not my expertise.
Be careful & good luck.
