ANSWER: Rajarshi:
It is highly doubtful that a urinary tract infection would last for 2 years with or without prostate surgery. If patient had prostate surgery, then prostate cannot completely normal in size and shape. Exact type and name of prostate surgery needs to be clarified. Symptoms of urinary frequency with small amounts without infection (2 year duration and he's on antibiotics) suggests a hyperactive or overactive bladder but interstitial cystitis is also possible. Urodynamics (bladder pressure testing) would be helpful in documenting this problem. A urine cytology to eliminate CIS of the bladder would be helpful. Overactive bladder drugs like Detrol LA4 might help. If his current urologist cannot help or solve the problem, you might want to get another opinion.

QUESTION: Sir,
Thank u for ur suggestion, he has operated prosted using TURP method in august 2006. the present KUB ultrasound shows a slightly thick urinary bladder,However he is taking two drugs namely veltride .5 mg & niftran as pescribed by doctor, Is it ok?
Answer After a TURP, much of the prostate tissue is removed to open the urinary passage. A thickened bladder wall usually indicates some level of overwork or increased activity.
Veltride is an Indian brand of dutasteride. There should not be any need for this drug following the TURP surgery. Niftran is another Indian brand name for a simple urinary antibiotic. Neither is similar to the Detrol we recommended previously. The earlier suggestions about a second opinion still stands.
