Question Hi, about three weeks ago I had a pretty severe pain in my right testicle. I then went to the doctor and he thought a prostate problem or epididimytis to be the cause. I have taken doxycycline for three weeks and in that time the pain has gone from my right testicle, to the left side, to my hips and sometimes legs, and abdo. Nothing too severe just a major inconvenience. Is the doxy just being rejected? Is it something worse?
Answer Jesse:
I can't say for sure because I haven't done an exam and I didn't make the diagnosis. Severe pain in the testicle could be epididymitis but that's unusual without significant swelling which you didn't mention. Severe testicular pain is not the most common symptom of prostatitis, but it's possible. Other possibilities are testicular torsion and hernia. The fact that your pain is all over the lower abdomen and legs suggests that it's something else. Your system doesn't "reject" an antibiotic, but I'd be concerned that there is some other problem. Contact your physician about your concerns and consider getting a second opinion.
