Question I sat down on my testicles and have pain, I iced it asap and 10 hour later had an ultrasound. Everthing came back neg.
Would inflamtion particular in my testicles (orchitis) have started yet or is 10 hours to soon? Would ice have any effect?
Answer Anon, it is quite unusual to injure the testicles from sitting down on them too hard. If this is the cause of your discomfort, a normal ultrasound (US) indicates that no damage was done. In such an instance, the symptoms will disappear on their own in a few days as the bruising resolves. Ice is preferable immediately after the injury but warmth is better at this point in time. Heat can be applied either by sitting in a warm tub bath for 15-20 minutes 3-4 times a day or by placing a warm wet wash cloth on the scrotum covered by a comfortably warm heating pad for the same time interval.
As the US was normal, however, it is possible that you had something going on in the testes prior to sitting on them and the "sitting incident" merely brought it to your attention. Probably the most common cause of discomfort in the testicles in the presence of anatomically normal testicles is referred pain from an inflamed prostate gland, so called prostatitis. I have written extensively on this condition on Allexperts.com and you should be able to find my "macro" on this topic there.
The bottom line is that if your discomfort persists for several days, it is unlikely due to trauma. In this case, consultation with a urologist is recommended so that a proper diagnosis can be established. Good luck.
