Subject: Pinching in my ureathra
Question Hi DR. Stephen
I am a 31 year old male, I began having a cold stinging sensation on the tip of my penis a year ago. It was also having burning during urination and a sharp pinch after releasing the urine from my bladder just before it hits the mid point in my urethra.
I had several visits to several urologists; I was given about every antibiotic you can think of along with a systascope. The systascope came back clear, after being given cipro for 7 weeks it started to clear up. Now there is no burning during urination but I still get the pinching really bad when I urinate, have you seen anything like this before? And if not do you have any idea what could be causing the pinching? All my P.S.A. tests came back clear.
Thank you for your help.
Answer Joe:
Burning on urination is a sign of inflammation, usually related to infection. Prostatitis can do this as well as urethritis and various other disorders.
It sounds like you've been treated for prostatitis. In addition to antibiotics, other treatments include avoidance of caffeine-smoking-alcohol, and hot spicy foods. Sitting in a hot tub will also help. 5-10 minutes is enough but mroe than once a day will help more. NSAIDs like Motrin can also help.
In some cases, we'll try something like quercetin (a non-prescription supplement). It's available at your local health food stores, also "Urostar" from www.peenuts.com or Prosta-Q which is available on the Internet.
