Expert: Stephen W. Leslie, MD - 11/6/2009
Question My 5 month baby had 2 drops of blood after urinating with some tissue along with it. This happened 5-6 times in ER and he seemed to have some pain urinating all that time. Doctors in ER thought it was UTI and gave him some antibiotics. But urine results from culture came back negative twice. After that he dosent seem to be in much pain urinating but his urine is not coming in a single stream. Doctor pls help what should i do as my baby cant tell me what is happening to him.
Answer Aarti:
Hypercalciuria (too much calcium in the urine) is another possibility besides infection. This type of problem is best handled by a pediatric urologist. These specialists are typically found only in larger tertiary care university hospitals.
