Urology - Prostatitis and burning sensation of glans after urinating

Expert: Stephen W. Leslie, MD - 11/7/2009

Question
Hello, I'm 28y intact male diagnosed with chronic prostatitis (non bacterial).
Recent STD/UTI tests negative.

I know that burning sensation at tip of glans is normal with prostatitis, but now I'm also experiencing mild burning sensation near glans corona after urination. This sensation starts 2-5 minutes after urination and lasts about 5-10 minutes.
Pain is mild but still annoying.

There are no visible indication that would explain the burning sensation I described. (= No redness, no blisters or anything that would look suspicious).

Could this burning sensation be just another symptom of my prostatitis?

Thank you for your time.
Mike

Answer
Mike:

The burning you describe could be a new problem such as urethritis or just an exacerbation of the prostatitis you already had.  Check with your urologist to see about changing your treatment.

Meanwhile, try sitting in a hot tub twice daily, avoiding caffeine, avoid hot spicy foods and consider taking a supplement like quercetin or "PEENUTS" (from www.peenuts.com).
