Urology - enlarged meatus and related issues
Expert: Stephen W. Leslie, MD - 11/7/2009
Question So here is my problem:
It started 6 monthes ago. Initially I noticed that my urethral opening has become considerably enlarged, as if wide open I can even see in my urethra. It's almost as if I have two openings now and when I urinate the stream splits in two and doesn't go straight ahead but bent to the left. I also have painful urination and post-void dribbling. My erections are very weak now and painful. The ejaculate has been significantly reduced both in amount and force. Frequently I have pain in the testicles.
Futhermore when semi-erect my penis seems to curve to the left.
I don't know what's happening. I live in Bulgaria and I've been to a dozen of doctors who claim there's nothing wrong with me. I've passed all tests including urofluometry and all of them turned negative but still I'm almost devastated because I don't even take any medicines.
Can please just give a hint to what might possiblw be going on. I would be very grateful.
Answer Vasil:
There is no logical explanation I can think of for an enlargement in the urethral meatus opening. Painful urination suggests inflammation or infection. Post void dribbling is relatively common and has no clinical significance. Reduced ejaculation suggests a medication effect or weakness in the internal sphincter allowing semen to go into the bladder. Not harmful and we usually don't treat this.
The pain in the testicles and the curvature to the side suggests prostatits and Peyronie's disease respectively. I suggest you consult a really good urologist to sort this out for you.
The uroflow test you passed only indicates that you have a normal urinary flow. That was not your problem.
