Urology/Protein Trace and presence of bacteria in urine test

Question
Hi,

My mom was asked to have urine test recently, for detecting arthrosis. In the test, it has come out that she had trace of protein and bacteria was also present.

What does this mean? Is this precursor to any kidney ailments?

Answer
Bragadeesh:

The protein traces could just be skin cells or other contaminants.  Significant protein in the urine could indicate kidney problems but this was just a trace.  Similarly, bacteria in the urine in a patient who is not symptomatic is usually a contaminant from the skin.
