I have been having a fairly severe alergic reaction to my wifes nuvaring that sounds like the same as described in the question. in the area that I am exposed to the ring my skin has become red and inflamed. it is very uncomfortable.

I think I have that same problem.  My girl started using it and after a couple of days.  My foreskin started to itch.  No rash, no redness.  I kind of just itched.  So I just tried to keep it clean and stop having sex for a while.  I think its the chemical in the Ring.

I had an allergic reaction to (what I was sure was) my girlfriend's Nuvaring and looked into this online. I found TONS of messages in online forums from guys like me who experienced the same thing, some of them even worse. Symptoms included redness, red spots, burning, peeling/dry skin and itching. Some of the guys said the burning went on for weeks after their significant others stopped using the ring. I'm more than a little freaked out after reading these messages!

I am experiencing that same rash/irritation and am looking to see any other negative side effects to men. I am in a monogamous relationship and we have had sex for 5 months without incident, which is why I was so surprised when I went to the restroom to find that reaction. It is comforting to know I am not the only one, but want answers to if there are any other effects to me.

Just confirming more of the same.  Girlfriend just started using the Nuva Ring.  Everything was cool for a month and a half or so.  Since then I've had symptoms from spotting on the Glans to redness irritation swelling and peeling on the foreskin.  I've never had any problems in that area before and we are both healthy and monogamous.  Takeing the ring out before hand and using a whole bunch of "Wet" lubricant seems to help.

Also confirming more of the same. Girlfriend started using the NuvaRing shortly thereafter my penis started peeling slightly and slightly itching. We took it out right before we had unprotected sex but I strongly believe my problem is because of the NuvaRing. I have had this problem for over a week now.

I had a similar reaction a while ago when I used a new type of condom out of my usual brand. This problem lasted for about a month.

My lady has been on Nuvo ring for 5 years.  I have experience some flaking underneath the right ridge of the bottom of my penis head.  Nothing serious, but I wonder does she feel it when she goes down on me.  I noticed it about a year and a half ago....but there is no pain and no major discoloration or growth.  I just seems to be a very thin flake of skin (that is slightly rough to the touch).  Very little redness and no pain or growth.........I can feel the Nuvo ring in that area when we have sex so I assume that is what it is.........even though there is no pain, I kinda pick at it when I dip my hand in my shorts when I watch TV......any suggestions

My girlfriend had nuvaring and I experienced the same symptoms you guys are describing.  When the symptoms occurred I would stop having sex with her and they would go away in a matter of days.  As a result, she changed birth control to the non-hormonal ied and I have had no symptoms since.

I have not experienced any of these side effects. However, after oral sex with my girlfriend, my tongue is enflamed/affected. I cannt eat any remotely spicey food for at least a week. I also cannot drink soda as the carbonation excacerbates the tingling/burning sensation in the tip of my tongue.  Many other foods and drinks are also painful to consume. Has anyone else noticed this problem?

OMGGGGG my boyfriend and i both had a reaction to the nuva ring and tried everything to get rid of it. It finally took going to the ER to figure it out. so lesson learned. DONT USE NUVA RING!

CS wrote at 2011-04-29 17:41:32
I dated a girl two years ago who used the ring.  I experienced redness, burning, itching, and irritation that was so bad have sex became so painful we had to take a two week break.  After much arguing that resulted in some harm to the relationship she stop using the ring and the symptoms magically disappeared.  A few relationships and two years later, I had experienced none of these symtoms reacurring until a week ago the exact same symtoms occurred with my new girl friend.  I later learned she as well was using the "ring".  I feel like I've got a chemical burn.

WOOOOW! Soon as me and my girlfriend get done having sex the base of my penis is burning like crazy! I couldn't figure out what the deal was so I quit having sex cause I thought it was jock itch. So after 2 cans of jock spray I decided what ever it was is gone we had sex again. After we got done it felt like I was on fire until I washed it off! THE RING WAS MADE TO KILL ALL MEN!

Kyle wrote at 2012-01-23 14:23:30
Wow. I was basically petrified about what was going on. Then it clicked, she was using the nuva ring, now they started happening. Wait, look that sh*t up!!!! Huge relief. So, no worries. Same stuff as everyone else, just use ointment or something. I just use that skin healing cream stuff. Makes it less noticeable and all that stuff. Nothing to worry about gentlemen. Thank God!

T Bird wrote at 2012-02-06 07:20:19
I was so worried when the head of my penis got so enflamed. I told my girl we had to take a break for a couple days. Being the frisky kids that we are, we started using our hands. That's when I felt the nuvaring inside of her and realized that was the source of the scabbing on the top of my shaft. You wouldn't believe the relief when I found all the other comments with similar stories. Can you believe her Dr told her guys like the way the ring feels?

Wow thank you for all your stories and to think I was going nuts and getting sick,  I have experienced all these side affects and a couple more..... the losing your taste and having my manhood hurt and tender when taking a shower and the water makes it way more tender . The main sad aide affect was when after I went down on my girl... things didn't taste the same as b4..... I also felt like I was getting sick so that was the main reason I didn't go down on her anymore.... and now it is all starting to make sense ..... and I developed a cold like symptoms itchy throat and constant coughing... like my throat was irritated .... all because of going down town and my girl is on the nuva-ring......... I have also noticed the symptoms of being more irritated for no reason and Moody ... which I never am ...... oh did I mention already that I was way more fatigued than usual .....

. Wow it all makes sense now...... I love going down town for my girl... and if it means having her switch B/C than so be it.... even if it means going back to condoms :-(

hope this helps someone else not feel like they r going crazy

Wow all these stories are right up my alley, now I can tell my wife that I'm not crazy. Since she has been using Nuvaring I have been having pain in my groin area and tenderness in my penis also the burning when I pee. She thought that I was sleeping around on her when I told her that it burned and I was in pain. She made me go get tested and embarrassed the hell out of me when the whole time it was that damn nuvaring. This product has ruined my marriage and she has been off it for almost a year and still can't have another child. Will anyone help us men whit this bad drug hell I rather wear a condom rather than go through the pain and being embarrassed again.

Hey i was so glad to come across this post. I just started to use nuvaring and my boyfriend is experiencing the same symptoms as many of you men are.. He is going on two weeks of having these pains and I don't know what to do or how much longer they will last...

Did any of you guys experience cankers in the mouth after oral sex? Neither of us have had sex with anyone but eachother so I know it isn't herpes. But she just started the nuva ring and this is the first time I have gone down on her since. This never happened before she was on it

Christian wrote at 2013-02-21 12:45:57
Same symptoms here. The first time it was kind of bad with redness, constant itching, red spots and skin peeling. Eh... gross. I never thought about connecting this to my girlfriend's nuvaring but now after the second time I'm sure. After the first allergic reaction no sex for a week and a half, everything was fine again. Even got a checkup, no STD of any kind. Then we tried it again and boom here we go again.

Very common issue wrote at 2013-09-08 03:30:27
My partner had the same reaction to the nuvaring. I was on it for around 5 months with no trouble. Then it started burning the outside of my skin with peeling. It was very uncomfortable during sex for the both of us. He started getting the redness, burning, and peeling soon after me and it didn't go away until I was 2 month off of the ring. I mentioned to this my doctor and he didn't seem to know anything about it. I do not recommend it at all despite what a doctor may suggest to women. It is also liked to a higher risk of blood clots...

Omg! There are NO symptoms on all the side effects about men having this problem. My boyfriend is having the same irritated raw skin joking that he has "dick rot" lol we now feel like we have the answer since everyone else is experiencing the same thing!  Hmmm now what to do.

Wash it off, silly wrote at 2014-01-03 21:45:13
Yup, I'm not a doctor but it seems I have this same type reaction to Nuvaring.  I find it helps if i wash my penis after having sex.  If I don't, I see symptoms.  If I do wash I usually don't.  Give it a shot.

PLEASE STOP USING NUVARING ASAP!!! my boyfriend of two years has this same issue, I have been using nuvaring for 4/5 years. I have some known side effects; which I never worried, until I stopped using nuvaring for about 5 months now and Im still having those side effects as well as my boyfriend. with his burning/itching sensation; on his shaft, head and testicles. He's tried gold bond powder, Lamisil, Lotrmini, Benadryl and numerous sleep-aids which none have seem to help but slight temporarily relief. Over the months we have been off any birth control, we've tried multiple body washes, lotions, bath towels, lubes; you name it. The doctors don't seem to do much but blame an "unknown" allergy, give suggestions that we have tried and state that basically this may be something we both may have to live with. And now that I have blood clots from this drug we are currently still on the hunt for a resolution.
