Used Cars - Car deal question

Expert: ray paulsen - 3/30/2009

Question
Well I traded my car for another car as is and now the guy keeps saying there is problems with the car making stuff up out of the blue. He wants to trade back cars but I feel this is unnecessary as he might have messed it up himself and its just not going out. Is there anything he can do? Or is the deal done? cause he's threatened to call his lawyer on me. But I never had any problems with the car when I had it before. I have the title and a bill of sale.

Answer
Hi Sara

With a dealer, you have recourse. With a private purchase or trade you have little or none.

The fact you mentioned the words AS IS means just that, whatever problems the vehicle may encounter becomes his problems, not yours.

I cannot give you legal advice, but here is a link on my website where you can submit your case , for free   http://www.usedcartips.org/dispute.html  should you decide to persue then state full detail about the whole transaction

Personally I would call his bluff and not budge unless I received word from his lawyer, and then take the matter from there as best I see fit.

Have a great day, Sara
