Question
my friend had a insured policy for his mother but the bank closed down and has changed several times. is it worth it to go Thurs the trouble of finding this bank and how would i go about doing this.

Answer
Hi Leslie,

Generally a bank sells insurance on behalf of insurance companies.  For example, the bank I work for sells insurance on installment loans, etc but they are underwritten by a different company.  If they provided you paperwork, there should be a number and a name of the company that underwrites this policy, otherwise you could go to www.fdic.gov and they should be able to provide a step by step of what to do in the rare case that particular bank is actually the underwriter.  If that bank has merged with another institution, you would want to call them because the information should have transferred over.

I hope this helps

Shane
