Subject: CD's

Question
Are there other choices besides banks that may be better to obtain CD's? Or are there other short term options to deposit money than CDs?

I want to gather interest for money set aside for temporary setbacks.  This is money for 6 months of paying bills.

Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Sallie,

Some banks may offer you a promotional money market.  the bank I am with for example offers 3.25% guaranteed for 6 months on balances of $5000 or more.  its the best of both worlds, high interest and liquidity.  We also offer 32 day cds, etc...you may want to check with your institution regarding short term cd options or money market rates.  Money markets are basically a glorified savings account.
