Question Sir,
I, Sushmita Rao, am currently residing in India. I have acquired admission into Berkeley college, New York. My problem is that I am 1991 born and therefore am still a minor. I started my education an year early. I require assistance on what kind of bank accounts I am allowed to open. My father who is also an Indian citizen wishes we to have a credit card which is billed to India, to him. Or to have an ATM card in order to withdraw money whenever required. Please enlighten me about the various choices I have regarding the above. Thank you.
Answer To open a bank account when you are under 18 you must have someone 18 or older on the account with you, even if they are not your parents. You would also be able to have an ATM card with a checking or savings account.
As far as the credit card, if your Dad has a credit card he should be able to get another card issued in your name that is linked to his account.
