Subject: direct withdrawal

Question
I worked for a company for about two years and had to quit because of an abusive boss. I did not give proper notice either. During my employment I was required to travel and was paid a per-diem and some of the other expenses were reimbursed. The week I quit I was paid by direct deposit some of which included a reimbursement, the money was deposited into my account, by then I had found another job and was in the process of moving to a new state.  One week after the direct deposit went through my former company reversed the deposit and took the money out of my account with out notice to me. Is this legal and what recourse do I have.  The payment was for about 900.00, this also caused a check to bounce. I lived in Florida and my bank was in Pennsylvania. Thank you for your time.

Answer
It depends on the paperwork that you signed to set-up your direct deposit with your employer.  Most likely they included verbiage that allows them to withdraw from your account if they make an error in the deposit.  If you were to dispute the withdraw through your bank your employer could simply say that they made a mistake and you authorized them to withdraw money if that happened.

I suggest you contact your employer directly to settle your pay, or consult a lawyer.
