Question My son will be traveling for awhile. He wants to open a bank account and get two ATM cards. This way I can use one to pay his bills. Can I do this? I don't want to be on his account. I don't want to be responsible if he is overdrawn, etc. His name only with 2 cards. Please advise.
Answer Hi Gabby,
Banks generally will issue one card per signer on an account. The reason for this is of course loss prevention purposes, for example if you were to go out and spend money on his card, he could dispute it as fraud since the card wasnt in his possesion and the bank would have to honor his claim. I realize that of course this wouldnt be the case, but banks as a rule will not usually do that. You can always check with the branch manager though to see if they will make an exception
