Subject: reason for returned check
Question we deposited a check for almost $2,500. for back rent owed. The check was drawn on a out of state bank. It was held and we did not receive it back in what I consider a
reasonable time. The reason for being returned was "refer to maker" She was gone and we had no way of getting hold of her. We turned it over to the PA and they would not do anything with it because the first time it was returned of the reason. It was sent for collection and it came back insf. I was a officer of a bank and employed for thirty three years. I was always told you either pay it or return it for insf. Can you give me an answer to this
problem. Thanks
Answer Banks usually will not return the check to you unless your account is not negative as a result of the check being returned NSF. i would contact the bank's loss prevention department on that to see what your banks policy is, but I do know that it varies from institution to institution
