Using Banks and Bank Accounts - post dated check

Expert: Alexander J. Hay - 2/17/2009

Question
my wife did some services for a friend. and received a post dated check for March 1,2009. I know from my own
experiences, the issuer's bank will not tell you if funds are available in March. My bank just tells me to deposit it. But if it bounces. it can cause a lot of problems in my
account. should I just hope for the best or what???

Answer
You wait until March 1, 2009, to deposit the funds. That is why you should never accept a post dated check. Plus if the check bounces you cannot go after the person because the check was invalid when issued (therefore you knew it was not good).

Good luck.
