AboutJim Meadows Expertise I can respond to most questions concerning consumer and business relationships with US financial institutions. My expertise touches on deposit and loan issues and particularly on strategies to navigate through bank policies personell and practices. I have a degree in Economics, attended law school, Graduate Shool of Banking, and Commercial Lending and Compliance Schools.
Experience I have twenty years experience as a bank CEO. Most of those years were spent operating a bank focused primarly on serving consumer/retail needs. I helped pioneer deposit and loan products for low/moderate income individuals. I currently serve on multiple bank boards and am Chairman of a Commercial Bank in Atlanta.
Question I am not sure my question applies to your area. I am making an international move to Hawaii. I am looking for a local bank I have found Bank of Hawaii and Aloha Pacific Union. I wanted to know if there is a website that compares ratings for different bank as well as there fees and rates. I know in this hard economic time a lot of banks are raising there fees, and I want to make an educated decision on which bank to choose. I have a 401K for retirement and a 529 for my kids college so it would be for basic banking (paying bills and such) and possibly a mortgage down the road. Also I have an HSBC account in London (where I am currently residing) and a credit union account in SLC I want to know if I should close these accounts and if I do will it hurt my credit score? If you can help me at all I would appreciate it.
Answer Christy, you can check out bankrate.com which will detail fees on interest bearing accounts. I don't know however of a source which will offer the sort of detail you are looking for. I suggest you go to the Hawaiian bank web sites to compare deposit account fees which are always posted.I don't think closing the UK accounts will harm your credit score. Jim
