Question Dear vahab,
you helped me some time ago with my fish project. I have made a lot of progress and now try to model movments of fish directly in my ArcGIS project.
Currently, I am modelling a fish's movments by selecting grid points using the select feature tool and exporting the selceted points as a new layer. I then export the selected points into hawth's tools to turn them into a path. My problem is that the path is made according to the FIDs of the gridpoints, not according to how I have selected them. Hawth's tools needs to order the points to make them into a path, and in the absence of a date it will use the FIDs. Hence I need to number the points consecutively as I select them. I wonder how this could be done. Maybe you have an idea.
Sincerely,
Juliane
Answer Dear Juliane,
Sorry for the delay.
Try this:
A- supposing that Hawth's tools doesn't operate NECESSARILY on the field named exactly as FID
1-Add a field in grid point's attribute table. Field name can be optional.
2_fill the field with sequential numbers, according your favorite order (numbers sequentially arranged in order of your supposed selection order)
3- select the points you intend to move to fish model and move them .
B- supposing Hawth's tools operate necessarily ONLY on the field named FID
1- Add a date field to the mentioned attribute table.
2- Fill the field with sequential dates
3- go on with step 3 above
In any case, I need your feed back, even if you don't need to ask any more question.
Regards,
Sajadi
