Question
dear expert,

I have instlled ArcGIS 9.2 on my brand new computer and now want to move my projects plus files from my old computer to my new one. I have copied the entire ArcGIS directory which I thought includes all files, but when i now open my project there is nothing on the map and the files appear by name with a red exclamation mark. What do i need to do to make them visible again ?

Regards,

juliane

Answer
Juliane,
Copy all the files of your project on the exact partition and folders, (exactly where they have been located on the old computer.)
Example:
Location of the project files on Old computer: D:\myproject\...
Location of the project on the new computer should be: D:\myproject\.
To avoid this trouble in the future:
1- select File in Arcmap
2- select "Document Properties"
3- select "data Source Options"
4- check "Store Relative Path names to Data sources
5- click "OK" (twice)
6- Save the project
Good luck
