Subject: Designer Question

Question
Hi Paski, I am an amateur designer just working on some stuff for a small company.  At my former large company, I had a copy of Domino Designer.  I do not have one now, but wish to get one (6.5 if possible).

#1 - Where can I get an old copy?  If I can't will the basic design features from 8 work in 6.5 if I have to get a new copy?

#2 - How can I design and test at home NOT being connected to an actual Domino server?  Or, do I have to create a server at home?  There are aspects with emailing features.

#3 - Can I just download designer, hook it onto the current POP3/SMTP email account I use for the business and use it that way?  It can work as a front-end to SMTP correct?

Thanks for your help!

Answer
Hi Ann,

#1 - I do not know where to get an old copy of designer. Your company should have to pay for the designer and then you will have to install it. You can use any later version of notes designer and they are backward compatible, provided you do not use lotus script methods specific to the new version. However, I am not familiar with 8 yet. I use 7.03.

#2 - You can design and test on your local machine without being connected to a server, provided you have the client and designer installed. Only thing you cannot test is sending mail out but if you send mail, you can find them in the mail.box on your local machine.

#3 - You do not need to hook up the designer to anything. The purpose of the designer is to design. As long as your client is configured correct and you have a mail account on your company's server, you can develop any applications.

I hope this is helpful.

Paski
