Subject: Make a list of all LotusNotes db

Question
QUESTION: Hello Paski,
Bombardier Aerospace is using LotusNotes 7.0
As you know with Lotus, we can create databases.
I have asked my IT department (Lotus administrator) to provide me with a list of all databases that were created in order to evaluate the magnitude and see if we can merge some of them.
I was told that there are no way of obtaining this report, that Lotus Notes DOESN'T support/provide such reporting....
Which leave my puzzled....
Is there a way to obtain such a list via LotusNotes embedded tool or shareware available somewhere???

Regards,

ANSWER: Hi,

Normally, there is a database catalog on every notes server. This is a notes database with a list of all notes databases on that server.

For a database to be listed in this catalog, the database should have the include in the database catalog box checked in the database property box.

Look for catalog.nsf or dbcat.nsf on the root of the server. However, your notes admin may have put this on a different path.

If this is not available, you will need to write an agent to go through each server in your organization and compile a list of all .nsf files. Generally, all databases are in the e: drive of the server. Again, your admin may have configured the servers differently.

The list of the servers are available in the corporate name and address book.

I am really surprised that an organization of that size has not organized your notes properly.

QUESTION: On my LotusNotes workspace, I have an icon called "Database Catalog on MTLapp01" which indicates the number 40583.
If its what you are referencing, is there a way for me to obtain a listing of all those 40583 db in in file that I can manipulate in Excel (.txt or .csv or...)

Answer
Hi,

Yes, you can export the content of the database to an excel but the code need to be written in lotus script. It is pretty easy but you should know notes programming very well.

Looking at the number of entries in the database, looks like it contains entries for all the mail files of all employees of the organization as well, in addition to applications.

Regards.

Paski
