Using MS Access - Displaying name of who is in the database

Expert: Scottgem - 7/10/2009

Question
Scott,

Is it possible for me to find out the IP or Computer name or the current person in a database? We use Access 2000 and I have a time out implemented so the user has to be active in the database or it will close down in 30 mins, the Project manager doesn't want that to be any lower but I am still having issues with people being in it when updates to the data are needed, it is important that everyone is pulling correct information. If I knew who was in it I could call and make sure they are still using and that they are using up-to-date data, thank you in advanced for any of your ideas.

Matt

Answer
Yopu can use the sample found here:

http://www.mvps.org/access/modules/mdl0055.htm

Another tool I use is found here:

http://www.utteraccess.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=48&Number=442811&Zf=f4...

It can actually send a meesage to all users who have the database open. You can include that as part of your shut down routine to send a message a few minutes before shutdown.

Hope this helps,
