Using MS Access/Access 2003

Question
QUESTION: I have updated to access 2003 form 2000.  I've tried to open my old file. I also tried to create a new database and the same message comes up.  It says workgroup administrator couldn't create the workgroup information file and then Microsoft office access couldn't find C:/documents and settings/Bryan/application data/Microsoft/access/system mdw.  My old database is HessFlr.

ANSWER: Did you impose Access User Level Security (ULS) on the database? If you need to reference the correct MDW file when you open the database.

Hope this helps,

QUESTION: Not that I know of.  I updated my home computer because Microsoft access had a run time error, and someone told me to upgrade it to 2003 and that doing so would fix the problem.  I tried a database that I downloaded from Microsoft and it wouldn't open.

Answer
It looks to me like you have ULS imposed but your system.mdw (which is the workgroup administrator) is missing. Can you find a system.mdw file on your drive? If so, I would first try copying that to the folder listed above.

If that doesn't work, can you create a new blank database? If so, Open the Workgroup Administrator (sorry I forget where it is in 2003, the Help file should tell you) and try to create a new one.

Hope this helps,
