Question
i'm using VB.net as my front end and mysql as my backend. i'm actually new to this program and my employer asked me to create a system using this language. i have a particular search form with search fields|: date, lastname, barangay, free services and accounts collectible. how can i search a client using all these fileds OR only one field only (e.g. lastname) OR using two or three fields (e.g. date, barangay, free services)?

Answer
I am guessing you would be an expert in writing SQL? and, I dont know, what alternative does mysql provides for stored procedures.

You can do it very simply writing a "stored procedure"
which includes a Dynamic SQL

e.g. (Please convert to mysql syntax accordingly)

Create Procedure SearchClient
@clientdate as datetime,
@lastname as varchar(50),
--@etc.etc.
AS

Select * from
tblClients
where lastname like '%' + @lastname + '%'
or clientdate  = @clientdate
--or similarly other fields here.

Return

Then you can use Oledb.OleDBCommand and Connection and DataReader objects to execute the SP read the data and display it.

Let me know if you need further help.

Regards,
Riz
