Question
Is there a fairly simple method to ensure that an application you distribute to paying customers only gets installed once so they can't redistribute it freely?  I'm not a very advanced VB.NET programmer, but can follow logic pretty well.  I read one post that suggested something about obtaining the user's computer id from the registry, but how would you update your code for that once it is assembled and distributed?  Any other suggestions, including some sort of unique key they have to enter or something would be appreciated.
Thanks much!

Answer
Food for thought: Are Microsoft Products not pirated anymore? Is there any company in the world whose product has not been hacked or cracked or used illegally?

Now to the answer, you can setup your own licensing server, every time your application runs it talks to the licensing server and only then it runs.

The license key can be the MachineID which is a combination of HDD Serial number and processorID or even MACID of the LAN card.

Let me know if you need further help.

Regards,
Riz
