Hi expert!

I just have a quick question regarding microsoft excel and visual basic access. I'm learning excel currently and was wondering if you can provide me with some tips on how to build a simple calculator to simplify data collection/ calculations into excel templates that requires calculations such as adding, subtracting, dividing and multiplying, calculating averages..math functions and be able to embed the excel template into a word document.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Sue,

From your description, it looks like a tabular entry form can be the easiest choice.  You can ask for data in columns, and add some columns with the calculations after the data entry.  I would recommend to use a different pattern for the cells with formulas, and even lock all the worksheet except the data entry cells (in the menu format -> Cell -> Protection tab)  If you need help with any specific formula, please let me know.
Regarding the integration with Word, the easiest way is drag and drop the Excel file into the word document.  I am using Office 2003, and Word recognized the workbook as an Excel sheet, and present the data as a table.  You can double click on the table, that activates the object and allows you to edit the values as you were working with Excel.  Also, you can open that data in Excel directly using the menu Edit -> Worksheet object -> Open when you have the object selected.

Hope this helps,
Miguel.

Answer
As a first approach, you can browse the templates section of the Microsoft website:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/default.aspx
Additionally, I can send you a simple file with the format I talked about, I just don't know your email.  My email is zapicm [at] gmail.com, write me there and I'll reply with the file.
