Van Halen - Lead Singer

Expert: Andrea Murphy - 10/5/2001

Question
Hello, can you please tell me your thoughts on what Van Halen should do with their singer situation?  I'm beginning to wonder if Gary Cherone was the best singer for them.  David Lee Roth is a clown and Sammy Hagar has gotten too fat from eating donuts and tequila.  Plus Eddie sure seems like he doesn't like either of them.

So, if you could please provide me with a detailed summary of the arguments for or against any proposed lead singer, I would be most appreciative.  The better your response, the better your rating will be.  Thank you for your time Andrea Murphy.

Answer
Dear Mr. Shark,

This is a tough one :)  I am sure that remaining with Gary would have just caused the band to lose more of their fan base...much like they are now.  Gary was not a good fit for what really is a "party" band.

Now if you apply that "party" band mentality to VH, then Dave the clown or Sammy the tequila swigging donut eater will fit right in.  Not to mention that when Eddie gets pissed off with his lead singers he comes up with some great stuff like Fair Warning or Humans Being.

Get Dave some ass-less chaps, Sammy a bottle of Cabo Wabo and a glazed donut to go, piss off Eddie VH wit an LSD ego problem...and look....you have classic Van Halen!

Hehe...how's that?

Andrea
