Question Hi Andrea,
I would like to know what material Van Halen, David Lee Roth or Warner Bros. have of live shows of the early eighties. My dream would be a video recorded during the 1980 Invasion tour with David wearing his famous leg warmers. Once you told me that they taped a lot of their shows. What was David comment on Van Halen Roth Era Live footage? Is anything moving forward? Since they approached for a reunion do you think we may stand a chance? What material would be released if they decide to do it?
Answer Hi Paolo,
I really can't answer most of these questions, since I can't project what VH will do in the future. I would love it if they would go through old footage, see if it is salvageable, and release it. Most of the footage I am aware of is 1981 and later.
I've seen parts of the 1981 Chicago show, I would hope a viewable copy exists somewhere. Largo 82, Montreal, and Uniondale NY, Caracas, VZ exist. There is a Donnington show from 1984, that I have seen parts of. I really want the famous Oakland show to come out, but the rumor is that the vids released are the only good ones from the tape.
Eddie has stated in the past that there is a lot of footage, but I am wondering at this point if that is a true claim. The problem with Eddie, is that he is a perfectionist. I can't guarantee that anything would meet his standards regarding sound quality, video quality, or presentation. My guess is that we have never seen most of the stuff because it doesn't meet his standards or view of where the band should be at that point.
